Wine & cheese lovers don’t want to miss this Dutch Wine and Cheese tour.
You start the day with visiting a local dairy farm. Here you can feed and pet the cows and see how wooden shoes are made. After milking the cows in the morning, the fresh milk is immediately used to start making Gouda cheese. Learn about curds and whey and about all the steps needed to make creamy young or crumbly old Gouda cheese. Don’t get a big breakfast, so you’ll still have room to taste over 15 different Gouda cheeses!
Only one-hundred years ago, about every small village would have a windmill towering high over the houses. This is where you would bring your grain if the wind was blowing, so the windmill could grind it into grain. Climb the narrow stairs for a great view from the balcony and get to understand the magnificent engineering of these old windmills. We take some fresh baked bread to our next stop.
Driving through the flat, lush green, wet countryside, you wouldn’t think of the Netherlands as a winemaking country. However, a long time ago, the Romans already brought the wine making skills to these low lands and started the first vineyards. Due to many different reasons in history, vineyards completely disappeared around 1850. It wasn’t until 1970 when some passionate winemakers restarted with winemaking in the south of the country. Today, with some help of climate change and new grape varietals, there are around 200 small vineyards in the Netherlands
Experience the passion of the local wine grower sharing his stories and taste the flavors of typical Dutch grapes like: Johanniter, Solaris, express themselves in a great glass of wine.
